Part Time Animal Care/Kennel Tech

The Animal Care/Kennel Tech position oversees all aspects of daily animal care. Your primary duty will be cleaning the kennels and socialization of dogs in play yards. Your overall duties will be to support the physical, medical and behavioral enrichment of our rescued Rockstars and assist in the day-to-day activities of running an animal shelter. The position does require direct handling of  dogs. Roadies must be detailed oriented, make good decisions, respond quickly and calmly in a crisis, must have excellent communication skills and a commitment to outstanding service.

  • Perform assigned tasks such as cleaning and feeding dogs
  • Maintain the cleaning and organization of shelter and property environment
  • To manage the basic care of animals in shelter
  • Be detailed in providing communication with staff
  • Support and be able to direct volunteers on basic animal care. Should be able to multi-task and provide training and supervision where necessary. Roadies work directly with our volunteers, clear communication and positive attitude is a key component
  • Understand and promote our mission and policies. Be able to support and be an advocate for our organization regarding animal welfare issues

Skills and Experience:
  • Must have the ability to work in the extreme heat of summer and cold in winter
  • Must have excellent verbal and written skills. Computer literacy is required
  • Must have flexibility in schedule. Position may require change of hours, combination of AM & PM shifts, medical emergency or transport of animals. M-F preferred
  • Be able to work in a demanding and potentially stressful environment
  • Must have reliable transportation. Driver license preferred
  • Must be very familiar with canine body language.
  • Must be comfortable performing behavior evaluations and recording the results in an objective manner.
  • Must be proficient in various techniques for handling and restraint of  dogs
  • Must be familiar with the use of various training devices for walking and restraining.
  • Must have a minimum of six months experience working with animals in a shelter, rescue, veterinary or boarding environment
  • Veterinary assisting experience helpful
  • Degree in animal-related field preferred
  • Must be at least 21 years of age
  • Must be physically able to handle, restrain and move dogs and supplies which may entail the ability to sit, stand, walk, squat, or kneel for extended periods of time. Must be able to reach, grab and extend arms both above and below shoulder level. Must be able to lift/carry up to 50 lbs. Must be able to flex neck upwards and downwards and twist both left and right from neck and waist.

Wage: $10.00 per hour (No benefits)
